Course Description
The BA (Law) is a three-year undergraduate degree that combines legal studies with subjects from the humanities and social sciences. This interfaculty programme allows students to take modules from both the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, giving you a broader understanding of how law interacts with society, politics, economics, and human behaviour.
This degree is ideal for students who plan to pursue a professional law qualification later (such as an LLB) or who are interested in careers in legal services, government, policy, research, and related fields.
Students in the programme will develop strong analytical, research, and communication skills while gaining foundational knowledge in legal principles and social science disciplines.
Admission Requirements
- A minimum 70% overall average in the NSC or IEB school-leaving certificate (excluding Life Orientation). - Home Language (HL): English or Afrikaans – Level 5 (60%). - First Additional Language (FAL): English or Afrikaans – Level 6 (70%). - Mathematics: Level 5 (60%) if you plan to take Economics as a university subject.
Career Opportunities
The degree enriches one’s understanding
of languages, human behavior and social issues. The BA (Law)
degree also provides entry to the 2-year LLB degree, which you
must complete if you wish to become a legal practitioner (attorney
or advocate).
